Unfortunately I missed 2 lessons due to a holiday so this
has meant I am quite far behind so I will be doing a lot of work at home to
catch up on missed work. I missed key points and lessons and therefore I have
had to ask for help so that when I get home I know what I need to do and can
catch up on my lesson.

week 1
Time Management
Due
to an unfortunate event that I could not help I had to miss a lesson. This has
lead to me falling behind in class and on work and I am finding it hard to
catch up as there is work I have missed and need to do in my own time. Other
then that I believe I am doing ok in media and will continue to do work I have
missed in my own time.

front cover
Another front cover that i really like is Q coverage go The Beatles 50th anniversary special as this uses a very basic black and white long shot of the full band with yellow and white text is very effective as this shows how a band of many years ago are still loved by many with the vintage black and white and the colorful modern day yellow making the reader want to read about the special event. Also the image in the corner of Paul McCartney will attract the reader even more the image shows him in deep conversation, showing he is talking very open and emotionally about the band and the events that occurred during The Beatles making people want to buy the magazine so that they can have an onsite into one of the greatest bands ever.
I like how the main image is an up-close shot of the artist as this shows who the artist is and gives a closer look of his hairstyle and clothes giving the reader an idea of the genre of music and type f artist he is. The light grey background along with the artists hair colour and shirt colour allows the yellow, blue and black writing really stand out and draw attention to the cover. Also due to the bright burst of contrasting colors, this relates to the artist personality land how they can be loud and "out their" with, as well as giving off a very gritty effect. The slight tilt of Liam's head gives off the indication of arrogance giving the reader a slight insight into the artist and their personality making the reader want to know if they have said anything controversial, funny or harsh in their interview. also one of the main sell lines is a quote from an interview inside in black which draws the reader in and after reading it, it made me want to see more and read the full article it has a little humor but could also be him having a dig at someone or something, so you would want to read more to find out.
finally this last cover i am looking at is very different as usually NME keep to their read logo and Q try to do this too and keep a style and layout on their magazines, so this last cover goes against that and that reflects their music, style, attitude and personality therefore showing how they are different to modern day music scene the mustard coloured background with the style and image is very contrasting and this relates to their music as it is very punk and political, being quite angry music where as the background is very soft and bright. the NME logo is white in red box showing how they have had to change to fit the cover style, and the sell line states and gives an idea of how slaves are trying to change the music industry and therefore NME has also changed. The angle of the shot and they way they are dressed and stood gives off an assertive powerful feeling. This draws in the reader as they will want to know about this new group who are trying to change up music and are very confident in the way they look and sound about doing so. overall this one and the Liam Gallagher cover are the ones i like the most and find most fitting as the grittiness go the image, and the way the contrasting colors in the background, to the sell lines, to the way they are dressed gives off a confident but cocky idea and this makes people want to read about the artist and music genre.
Project
task: For my AS level coursework I have the task of creating a music magazine using a
DTP to create a front cover, a contents page and a double spread. I have to
include text and images that show and talk about the genre of music my magazine is looking at,
the artist and their music as well as other music news.
Genre: The genre of music I will be
looking at is indie/mod music and will be looking at bands such as The Who,
Oasis, The Smiths, Stone Roses etc. I will be looking at British based bands
and how their image, style and sound and how this influences their fans choice
of how they dress, hairstyle etc.Due
to the indie/mod genre, I will use the British flag colours of red, blue and
white and use this so fans of the music genre will see this and be drawn to it,
as well as using existing logos that people recognize around the world such as
the lemon used by the stone roses as symbol that people will know. Festivals’
like Hyde Park appeal to fans of this genre by having acts such as The Who and
the Stone Roses allow fans from their generation, as well as younger fans to
see bands who are now older and tour less so people cans till go and watch the
type of music they like. These festivals also allow people to see new upcoming
bands who are trying to keep the genre of music going, bands such as The Enemy
and The Courteeners who are less known world wide due to music taste changing
and more pop etc being in the charts, tour and grow by playing a big festival
and gather a bigger following of fans.
